Unfortunately the previously issued service packs for SkyMap Pro 11 and SkyMap Lite 2005 had a problem which resulted in the program hanging up if the internal asteroid catalog editor was used. New service packs (service pack 3 for SkyMap Pro 11, service pack 2 for SkyMap Lite 2005) have been released which correct this problem. Apologies to anyone who installed the previous service packs and experienced difficulties as a result.
Service pack 1 has been released for SkyMap Lite 2005, fixing the same issues and described below for SkyMap Pro 11. The service pack can be downloaded from the Service Pack Page of the Library.
Service pack 2 has been released for SkyMap Pro 11. This fixes a bug associated with the calculation of the position of extremely distant asteroids, and also handles a slight change to the format of the asteroid catalog resulting from the number of "numbered" asteroids now exceeding 100,000. The service pack can be downloaded from the Service Pack Page of the Library.

A bumper set of new uploads to the library today. A new "Bitmaps" library page has been created for downloading alternate sets of bitmap stars for SkyMap Pro 10 onwards, initially with one new set of star bitmaps. A new "Best Northern Hemisphere Objects" target list has been uploaded, and also a new KHQ catalog containing bright quasars and BL Lac objects. A new set of constellation figures for SkyMap Pro 11 has been uploaded. Finally, we have a new set of comet orbital elements, current for May 30th, 2005.
Service pack 1 for SkyMap Pro 11 has been released, correcting a bug which causes the program to crash when a particular menu item was selected. We recommend all users of SkyMap Pro 11 to download and install this service pack.

A bug has been reported in SkyMap Pro's "RealSky" support files; attempting to display a background image in one specific area of the sky (that covered by the RealSky plate "XE524") will make the program crash. A new version of the RealSky support files has been uploaded to the web site; we recommend that anyone using the RealSky CDs go to the RealSky support page and download and install the new version of the support files.

This service pack gives the program the ability to compute asteroid positions using the Minor Planet Center's new "MPCORB" asteroid orbit database. This database, updated daily, contains orbital elements for all asteroids for which predictions can reliably be made, and currently contains data for over 30,000 objects.
A new "MPCORB" tool has been uploaded to the "Tools" area of the Library. This will convert an MPCORB database file into an internal SkyMap Pro asteroid catalog.

A new section has been added to the Library containing updated asteroid orbital elements usable by both SkyMap and SkyMap Pro. A set of asteroid orbital elements current for Jan 8th, 1999, has been uploaded, and a new set of data will be uploaded every few months. A new "astorb" tool has been uploaded to the Tools page of the Library; this converts an "astorb.dat" asteroid file downloaded from the Internet into the format used by internal SkyMap asteroid catalogs.
SkyMap Pro 5 service pack 2 has been uploaded to the Library. This fixes one minor bug, and also allows the program to use the new format ASTORB asteroid database which has been modified to deal with asteroids numbered above 10,000.

We are, as of today, withdrawing the older SkyMap 3.2 product from sale. No new development had been done on this product for nearly three years, and the evaluation version didn't give an accurate impression of the capabilities of SkyMap Pro.
We've released a demonstration version of SkyMap Pro 5 to allow people to take a look at the product before purchase. This demonstration version comprises the fully functional program and the full manual, but with only a small amount of data compared with the more than 500MB of data available in the complete product. Two versions of the demo are available - a 6MB version downloadable from this site, and a much larger 80MB version which can be ordered on CD-ROM from our publishers for a small fee; this fee is fully refunded if you subsequently buy the product.

SkyMap Pro's main catalog for the display of bright stars is the PPM catalog. The version of the catalog shipped with the program is incorrectly sorted; if a map is drawn with a low limiting magnitude (ie a map only showing bright stars), this can cause some bright stars not to appear on the map.
The PPM catalog is large - 23MB in size - so it's not feasible to distribute corrected data files. What we've therefore done is written a program called PPMFix which will "re-sort" the catalog into the correct order on your own machine. This fix is available on the Service Packs page of this site.
Two new telescope drivers - for the Meade "Magellan I" and the Sky Engineering "Sky Commander" are now available from the Driver Library section of this web site.

Service pack 4 allows SkyMap Pro to compute planetary positions using Chapront and Francou's "Planetary Series (1996)" method.
