Target Lists

This page contains a library of new or updated "target lists" for SkyMap Pro 6 or later. If you've created a new target list which you'd like to share with other SkyMap Pro users, please send it (preferably compressed as a ZIP file) to chris@skymap.com.

After downloading a new target list, unzip it to get the uncompressed ".tgl" file, then simply copy it to the "Data\Target" subdirectory of your SkyMap Pro installation directory. You can then open the target list from the Planning/Target Lists... menu item.

Galaxy Bridges, Tails, and Rings

Click here to download (gbtr.zip, 1k)

In the words of the contributor:

For those with a large chunk of glass, I made a target list from the November 2000 Sky & Telescope article by Richard Jakiel entitled "Galaxy Bridges, Tails, and Rings."  These autumn/early winter galaxies exemplify the above. Magnitudes range from ~11.1 through 15.1, so they're not for the aperture challenged....

This target list is for the Saguaro Astronomy Club's "110 Best Double Stars" list. The accompanying text file indicates the target stars and their information regarding magnitudes, PA & Separation. Keep in mind this list was developed some time ago so some of the position information may be suspect. Check other, more current, sources for more accurate positions if in doubt.

Some of the stars on this list, most notably, the Herschel stars, are recognised in Skymap Pro by their Tycho designations. These designations have been added to the notes column of the text file where applicable.

Should you have any questions or comment regarding this list, please don't hesitate to contact me at Saguaroastro@aol.com or through our club site at www.saguaroastro.org

SAC "110 Objects Beyond the NGC"

Click here to download (byndngc, 5k)

This list is supplied as representative of the types of deep sky objects not included in the NGC. Many are faint and somewhat difficult, so this list is provided for experienced observers. You should have completed the Herchel 400 list before taking on this challenge. A detailed star atlas is needed to pinpoint these objects. Although large aperture (12" or more) is recommended to complete this list, it has been done in an 8".

Objects are included from the following Catalogues: Index Catalog, Abell, Uppsala Galaxy Catalog, Mellote, Barnard, Sharples, Collinder, Perek & Kohoutek, Trumpler, Ruprecht.
