This list of objects has been compiled by the astronomer and author, David
Levy. It is described in his book:
Deep Sky Objects: The Best and the Brightest from Four Decades of Comet Chasing (Prometheus, 2005)
and in the article "Introducing the Levy List" in the December 2005 issue of "Sky and Telescope" magazine.
The zip file contains an RTF file with a description of the objects, an Excel spreadsheet, a SkyMap catalog file, and a target list.
29-DEC-2005: Revised version uploaded, with positions, sizes, magnitudes and object types now matching those used by SkyMap.
