Driver Library

The following new and updated telescope drivers are available for SkyMap Pro. To install a new driver, click on a link to download it, and save it in the "Drivers" subdirectory of the SkyMap Pro installation directory. Selecting the "Telescope/Configure" menu item from within the program should then automatically show the name of the new device.


ASCOM driver

This is a telescope driver for SkyMap which allows connection to any telescope supported by the ASCOM (Astronomy Common Object Model). See http://www.ascom-standards.org for further information. Note that, in order to use this driver, you must first download and install the ASCOM runtime environment from the ASCOM web site.

Some notes about this driver:

This driver was written by Mark Crossley (mark dot crossley at dsl dot pipix dot com). Any questions relating to its use should be addressed to Mark, not to SkyMap Software.

07-SEP-03: Version 1.1.0 uploaded, fixing some bugs in the initial release of the driver.
30-NOV-03: Version 1.2 uploaded, fixing a bug which caused long disconnection times with some telescopes.
23-MAY-04: Version 1.2.1 uploaded, fixing a bug associated with the use of the POTH hub.


Astro-Physics GTO mounts

This is a driver for the Astro-Physics GTO range of telescope mounts.

This driver provides the following functionality:

Note that this driver requires SkyMap Pro 6 or later.


Celestron NexStar 5/NexStar 8

This is a driver for the Celestron NexStar 5 and NexStar 8 computer-controlled telescope.

Clicking the above link will download a file called "N5.ZIP". When this file is unzipped you'll have two files - "nexstar.drv" and "scope.dll". Copy "nexstar.drv" to the "Drivers" subdirectory of the SkyMap installation directory; copy "scope.dll" to the installation directory, overwriting the file of the same name which will already be there.

Older versions of the NexStar had a number of bugs relating to external computer control:

These are problems in the NexStar's "on-board" software, not in SkyMap's telescope driver. Computer control of "modern" NexStar's appears to work correctly.


Celestron NexStar 11

This is a driver for the Celestron NexStar 11 computer-controlled telescope.

Losmandy Gemini GOTO mount

This is a driver for the Losmandy "Gemini" range of computer controlled mounts.

Clicking the above link will download a file called "gemini.zip". This contains both the telescope driver (gemini.drv) and complete C++ source code for the driver. The driver file is all that is required if you simply want to use the driver - the source code may be of interest to programmers.

Meade Autostar

This is a driver for the Meade Autostar - the computer "add on" for the ETX 90/EC telescope. Note that it is the Autostar, not the telescope itself, which provides computer control for this device.

Meade LX200

This driver corrects a minor bug in the version of the driver shipped with SkyMap Pro 4 and 5. When setting the telescope's latitude and longitude to match those used by SkyMap Pro, the latitude and longitude are now correctly rounded to the nearest minute of arc, rather than always being rounded downwards.


Meade LX/ETX shared driver for "AstroArt"

This driver allows concurrent use of SkyMap connected to an LX-200, ETX, or other telescope with LX-200 command compatibility while AstroArt 2.0 uses the COM port for STAR2000 guiding. The driver has a simple user interface allowing basic control of the telescope. For full instructions on using this driver, please refer to the "readme" file included in the ZIP package or the AstroArt web site at www.msb-astroart.com for more information.

Takahashi NJP "Astro Scale" DSC driver

This is a driver for the Takahashi NJP mount with optional "Astro Scale" digital setting circle device. As with all DSC drivers, the only capability offered by this driver is to display a cross-hair cursor on the star chart indicating the telescope's current position.


Vixen Skysensor 2000 in LX200 emulation mode

Note that, to use this driver, the Skysensor must be set to use LX200 emulation mode. You must use this driver; the standard Meade LX200 driver will not work correctly with the Skysensor 2000.
